The Enterprise Learning Alliance is a KCC organisation that works with young people and other schools in South East Kent as a referral unit.
With its focus being on core academic skills and some more vocational subjects, the requirement was to create a food technology classroom that was semi-commercial in its design so that students could be introduced to the hospitality industry with a view to giving them some basic cookery and food-handling skills.
These may just be useful life skills or could lead students towards a career in catering and hospitality.
An unusual but welcome job for us, as we had very recently completed the fit-out of the food technology classroom in the adjacent room our client asked if we would do the same for the hairdressing salon classroom. Materials and processes were very similar so we put a program of works in place and got right to it.
As an area where the floor was very likely to be wet Altro flooring was the obvious choice.
We also provided some air movement with a simple ventilation system and completed all electrical and plumbing works including the provision of a hot water cylinder.
