The Albion Rooms, once a very run Margate hotel, is now the new home to Pete Doherty and The Libertines. This crumbling seaside hotel needed a full refurbishment to turn it into the stylish 10 bedroom hotel, bar and recording studio.

The first phase of their project was to complete the construction of a new recording studio and open the downstairs public bar called The Wasteland which opened in August 2019.

Phase 2 to open the restaurant, which will feature local and guest chefs from across the world is due for completion in early 2020.
Our brief was to create a general-purpose kitchen in what is a fairly small space but allow a degree of menu flexibility with the appliances used.

Initially, we had to get the extraction system approved by the local council. Once our planning pack including elevation drawings, equipment specifications and background noise surveys were completed we submitted to the planning authority for their consideration, a process that was successfully completed about 12 weeks later.

We were then able to start work on the kitchen.

Bioclad hygienic wall cladding was added to provide the most hygienic surfaces and Altro stronghold for a highly slip-resistant vinyl floor. The room structure was completed with the installation of a suspended ceiling and LED flat panel lighting.
We next installed a stainless steel kitchen extraction ventilation system and ducted this through to a flat room area where noise and odour control measures where installed before rising 5 floors to a discharge point above the roofline.

Appliances in this small kitchen needed to be versatile so we installed a Rational combi oven and a Blue Seal hob with fridge below as the two key pieces of cooking equipment. Other kitchen items included sinks, dishwashers, fryers and refrigerated storage. We also supplied a number of the appliance to the bar area.
