Kitchen Design and Refurbishment for Shepherd Neame’s Seaside Pub

Situated in the heart of Whitstable and just moments from the sea, The Royal Naval Reserve is a beloved local pub known for its welcoming atmosphere, fine food, and drinks. With a fantastic central location, this charming pub serves as a favourite spot for both locals and visitors.

As part of their refurbishment, Shepherd Neame approached us to redesign and modernise the kitchen to support a more varied and sophisticated menu. The existing galley-style kitchen needed to be updated to ensure that it met both hygiene standards and the evolving demands of the pub’s growing clientele.


🔑 Scope of Work

Our role in this project was to fully refurbish the kitchen and improve the functionality of the space, which included upgrading the kitchen’s extraction system, installing new kitchen equipment, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.


🛠️ Kitchen Extraction Redesign

Given that The Royal Naval Reserve is located in a listed building within a mixed residential area, we needed to redesign the kitchen’s extraction system to ensure compliance with both local planning authority requirements and modern regulatory standards. This included adding noise and odour control measures to reduce the impact of kitchen emissions on the surrounding area.

Once the new extraction system was completed, we moved forward with the installation of gas and plumbing services to prepare for the next phase.


🍳 Installation of New Kitchen Equipment

With the extraction system in place, we proceeded with the installation of new Blue Seal cookline equipment, along with Gram fridges, stainless steel benches, and sinks. These high-quality kitchen components were selected for their durability, efficiency, and suitability for a busy pub environment.

The kitchen was carefully designed to ensure smooth workflow, and the upgraded equipment allows for the preparation of a wider and more sophisticated menu, enhancing the pub’s offering.

The completion of the kitchen refurbishment has allowed The Royal Naval Reserve to offer an expanded menu to its customers, elevating both the food and overall pub experience.
