More about this project

The Romney Marsh Visitor Centre run by the Kent Wildlife Trust is funded by donors and members with their full focus being on local conservation.
At the visitor centre they had a shop and cafe facilities that did not allow them to offer much more than tea and cakes from an area that was more of an office with a domestic kitchen than a proper commercial kitchen space.

We were asked to improve their catering facilities by creating a hygienic space and including equipment that would allow a simple but much-improved menu to be offered.

The building is constructed from environmentally efficient wooden beams infilled with straw bales so not interfering with the integrity of the walls was important.
To do this we ply clad the complete room so that any further fixings would not interfere.

The room was fully Bioclad UPVC wall clad and slip-resistant Altro stronghold 30 vinyl was added to a latexed floor.
As the ceiling was vaulted and had open beams we added a wipe-clean suspended ceiling with LED light panels to complete a totally hygienic working area.

The addition of stainless steel sinks and benches, a dishwasher and some basic electric cooking appliances completed the transformation of this office space to a workable and easy to keep a clean kitchen.
