More about this project

This single job to create a vocational training kitchen increased in size whilst we were onsite as we were also asked to complete the adjacent hair dressing training room.

The Enterprise Learning Alliance is a KCC organisation that works with young people and other schools in South East Kent as a referral unit.

With its focus being on core academic skills and some more vocational subjects, the requirement was to create a food technology classroom that was semi-commercial in its design so that students could be introduced to the hospitality industry with a view to giving them some basic cookery and food-handling skills.
These may just be useful life skills or could lead students towards a career in catering and hospitality.

With a semi-commercial brief we felt it important to create a safe hygienic working space that would be practical and easy to keep clean.
We provided Altro slip resistant safety flooring and Bioclad Upvc wall cladding, both commonly found in commercial kitchens.

Next, we needed to design bespoke six stainless steel work stations and a teaching station each with a sink unit, a convection oven and an induction hob.
Rather than offering commercial appliances with their high electrical demand and high cost, we offered domestic units from Howdens as their operation will be more familiar to students.

The building was awkward for both electrical and plumbing services so reasonable re-wiring and plumbing works were carried out by us, including providing a wastewater pump and a hot water cylinder.

The project is now complete and handed over to the customer ready for the Autumn term.

An unusual but welcome job for us, as we had very recently completed the fit-out of the food technology classroom in the adjacent room our client asked if we would do the same for the hairdressing salon classroom. Materials and processes were very similar so we put a program of works in place and got right to it.

As an area where the floor was very likely to be wet Altro flooring was the obvious choice.
We also provided some air movement with a simple ventilation system and completed all electrical and plumbing works including the provision of a hot water cylinder.

Client's Testimonial

I would like to say a massive thank you to Simon and his team for their outstanding first-class delivery of our new Kitchen at Southwood.

It has exceeded our expectations and our Kitchen Team has found the new layout and equipment supplied supports them exceptionally well on a daily basis. I would recommend this company without hesitation to colleagues in the future.
