A New Era for an Iconic Seaside Venue on the Historic Deal Pier

Client Overview: Reviving a Coastal Landmark

Deal Pier Kitchen is situated at the very end of Deal’s iconic 1950s pier—a unique and cherished landmark on the Kent coast. After being closed for over a year, the site was given a fresh opportunity for revival under the new ownership of Tim and Rebecca, two experienced hospitality professionals with diverse backgrounds: one in large-scale catering and the other in innovative street food.

Having previously worked with both the local council and former tenants, we were already familiar with the space, having stripped out the original kitchen ourselves. This existing knowledge gave us a head start in supporting the transformation of the venue into a modern, community-focused eatery offering high-quality, locally sourced food and drink.

Project Brief: A Clean Slate for a Fresh Concept

Tim and Rebecca’s vision for Deal Pier Kitchen was centred on modern equipment, safety compliance, and a vibrant yet functional kitchen environment that could support both fast-paced service and high culinary standards.

Our job was to redesign the kitchen from the ground up, delivering a fit-for-purpose commercial setup capable of handling regular footfall in a busy seafront location—all within the constraints of a unique and physically challenging site.

Scope of Work & Key Features

1. Commercial Extraction & Fire Safety

Given the location and the need for compliance with modern fire safety regulations, we installed a bespoke extraction canopy integrated with a state-of-the-art Ansul fire suppression system. This provided peace of mind and met all relevant compliance requirements for a kitchen operating in a public, high-traffic location.

2. Hygienic & Durable Finishes

To meet food safety and environmental hygiene standards, we applied:

• Bioclad hygienic uPVC wall cladding

• Altro slip-resistant safety flooring

• A suspended, wipe-clean ceiling system

These materials were chosen for their durability, easy-clean surfaces, and professional-grade performance in demanding environments.

3. Professional-Grade Equipment Supply & Installation

We worked closely with the owners to specify and supply energy-efficient, high-performance catering equipment, including:

• Blue Seal and Rational cooking appliances

• Maidaid commercial dishwasher

• Foster refrigeration units

Each appliance was selected for its durability, reliability, and suitability for the intended food offering, which blends quality with speed of service.

4. Unique Logistics: The 350-Metre Challenge

While our team is well-versed in tricky site conditions, installing a full commercial kitchen at the end of a 350-metre-long pier added a level of logistical complexity that required planning and persistence. Every piece of heavy equipment had to be transported manually along the pier—a task that certainly kept us fit, but one we took in stride thanks to experience and coordination.

The result is a high-performance kitchen that supports Deal Pier Kitchen’s vision of locally inspired, freshly prepared food served in a spectacular seaside setting. The combination of top-grade finishes, modern cooking appliances, and improved fire and safety systems ensures the business is set up for long-term success.
