Kitchen Refurbishment – Deal & Betteshanger Sports and Social Club
Enhancing Community Spaces with a New Commercial Kitchen
Project Overview: Upgrading for the Community
Deal & Betteshanger Sports and Social Club has long been a cornerstone of its local community, providing a place for recreation, events, and gatherings. With a growing need for improved kitchen facilities, the club decided to upgrade its existing kitchen. The original kitchen was a mix of commercial and domestic equipment, which was proving inefficient for the club’s growing demands.
After discussing the needs of the club and exploring available options, it became clear that converting an underused storage room into a larger, dedicated kitchen space would be the best course of action. The project was carefully planned to ensure that the club’s kitchen services would remain operational while the new kitchen was being built.
The Decision to Relocate: Building a New Space
Rather than attempting to overhaul the existing kitchen, which would have been highly disruptive to the club’s operations, it was decided to move the kitchen to a slightly larger room that had previously been used for storage and occasional meetings. This room conversion provided the flexibility to work without impacting the day-to-day running of the club, allowing the original kitchen to remain in operation until just a day before the new kitchen was completed.
Key Features of the Project: From Concept to Completion
1. Hygienic Wall Cladding
We installed hygienic wall cladding across all wall surfaces in the new kitchen. This high-quality, wipe-clean material ensures a clean and safe environment for food preparation, easily meeting health and safety standards.
2. Altro Safety Flooring
To ensure a slip-resistant, durable surface in the high-traffic kitchen area, we laid Altro safety flooring. This type of flooring is specifically designed for commercial kitchen environments, offering safety and easy maintenance while withstanding the wear and tear of busy kitchen operations.
3. Extraction System with Gas Safety Interlock
One of the most important features of the new kitchen was the custom-built extraction system designed for the cooking area. This system was integrated with a gas safety interlock, ensuring that the kitchen ventilation system operated safely and efficiently, protecting both the staff and the facility.
4. New Commercial Equipment Installation
Once the room was fully constructed and ready, we worked with the club to provide and install a complete range of new commercial kitchen equipment, tailored to meet the specific needs of the club’s busy schedule. This included appliances that would support both small and larger-scale cooking operations for events, gatherings, and day-to-day service.
The Outcome: A More Efficient and Functional Kitchen
The transformation of the kitchen has had a significant positive impact on the club’s operations, with a newly designed and fully equipped space capable of handling the increased demands placed on the kitchen. The smooth relocation of the kitchen into a new room meant that the club never had to halt its kitchen services, ensuring minimal disruption for both members and guests.
With new hygienic wall cladding, safety flooring, and a dedicated extraction system, the kitchen now meets modern commercial standards while also offering improved efficiency for the club’s operations. This upgrade ensures that the club’s kitchen is equipped to handle everything from regular meals to larger events and private functions.
Client's Testimonial
In 2015 Deal & Betteshanger rugby club, took a decision to substantially upgrade its kitchen facility to a full commercial kitchen status, to allow the club to offer upgraded kitchen and cooking facilities to the local community on an ongoing basis. Our budget was £40,000, we appointed a project manager and a subcommittee to ensure the project was managed professionally and delivered on time. From the various business and commercial business colleagues we have in the club, we decided on a shortlist including Advantage Catering Equipment. Each was invited to the club to view the kitchen site, and to understand the spec from our project manager. We received quotes together with references. From this process, Advantage Catering Equipment was appointed.
Our project manager worked in partnership with Simon Critchett to agree the various phases of work, and project plan, and to agree on a final completion date. We are very pleased to report that the work was undertaken effectively, professionally and within a time-scale and to our budget.
Based on our experience we would recommend Simon Critchett and Advantage Catering Equipment for serious consideration when considering your kitchen requirements.
