Frittenden Memorial Hall – Kitchen Refurbishment for a Community Space

Upgrading a Small Hall Kitchen for Everyday Use and Professional Catering

Project Overview: A Community Kitchen for All

Frittenden Memorial Hall, located in the heart of the village, is a community hub that honors the memory of those who fought and died in the Second World War. The hall serves as a space for a wide range of community events, from local clubs and societies to more formal occasions, such as contract catering services for larger gatherings.

The Frittenden Parish Council approached us to refurbish and modernize the hall’s small kitchen, ensuring it met the needs of both everyday users and professional caterers. The project was essential for creating a functional, safe, and easy-to-maintain kitchen space that would support both community activities and high-quality catering services.

Project Brief: Functional, Easy-to-Clean Kitchen Design

The client’s main objectives were clear:

  • Create a versatile kitchen that can be used for both simple tasks (like making tea and coffee) and professional catering for larger events

  • Prioritize cleanliness and hygiene, with easily maintainable surfaces and floors

  • Equip the kitchen with basic but reliable cooking equipment for a variety of uses

  • Ensure durability, as the kitchen would be used frequently by a wide range of people

Our Approach: Simple, Practical Design with Lasting Impact

1. Hygienic Surfaces for Easy Cleaning

The key challenge was ensuring the kitchen was easy to clean while providing professional-grade functionality. We installed uPVC hygienic wall cladding and slip-resistant vinyl flooring—two features that met the client’s high standards for cleanliness and safety.

  • uPVC wall cladding is low-maintenance, durable, and easy to wipe down, which is crucial for a space used by many different people.

  • Slip-resistant flooring ensures a safe working environment, especially in a high-traffic space that might see spills from time to time.

2. Essential Kitchen Equipment

We equipped the kitchen with the basics to ensure it could support everyday community use and professional catering needs:

  • Basic cooking appliances were installed for regular use, such as kettles, microwave, and small ovens

  • Fridges to support food storage and maintain health and safety standards

  • Stainless steel benches and sinks, providing durable and easy-to-clean surfaces for food preparation and cleaning

3. Efficient Use of Space

While the kitchen was small, our team made the most of the available space by ensuring that every item was placed strategically to maximize workflow. This allows the kitchen to be used effectively for both small and larger-scale events.

Outcome: A Simple Yet Functional Kitchen for the Community

Despite the small scale of the project, the transformation of Frittenden Memorial Hall’s kitchen has had a significant impact on the community. The hall can now cater to a wide range of activities and events, from casual daytime club meetings to more professional catering needs for larger gatherings.

“This was a straightforward but incredibly rewarding project. The upgraded kitchen now supports the needs of Frittenden’s community, allowing them to continue hosting a variety of events with ease.”

The new kitchen has already seen daily use, making it a valuable resource for the parish council and residents for many years to come.
