🏛️ Project Overview – A Classic Café Gets a Fresh Start

Dalby Café is one of Margate’s oldest and most loved cafés. Therefore, it has been a local favourite for decades, serving tasty breakfasts and quality meals. However, the kitchen and front counter had grown outdated.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 lockdown created a rare opportunity. Consequently, the owner decided to carry out a full refurbishment. In addition, this project allowed him to rethink the layout and improve workflow. Similarly, it helped the café prepare for a strong reopening post-pandemic.

🔧 Our Role – Full Kitchen and Front Counter Upgrade

First, we worked closely with Mark, the owner, to shape his vision. Then, we planned a modern kitchen and counter that kept the café’s welcoming atmosphere. Therefore, the new design improves efficiency and enhances customer experience. Moreover, it ensures staff can work safely and comfortably.

✅ Kitchen Layout and Workflow

We designed a new layout that created a dedicated dishwashing area, reducing congestion. In addition, the improved flow allows kitchen and front-of-house staff to move smoothly.

Next, we stripped out the old kitchen and counters to start fresh. Then, we upgraded plumbing and electrical systems to meet modern standards. Furthermore, we added hygienic UPVC wall cladding for easy cleaning. Meanwhile, slip-resistant vinyl flooring improves safety. Finally, we installed a new L-shaped extraction canopy that meets strict ventilation standards.

🛠️ Equipment Installation and Efficiency

We fitted high-powered cooking appliances, fridges, and hot-holding units. In addition, we positioned everything within easy reach of the chef. Consequently, workflow feels faster, and food quality stays consistent. Similarly, staff can handle busy service with ease.

🏗️ Front Counter Upgrade

We built the new custom counter off-site to minimise disruption. Then, we installed it along with tiled walls and fresh decoration. In addition, features like cup dispensers and drinking water fonts make service easier. Therefore, the café keeps its historic charm while running more efficiently.

We finished the refurbishment just before reopening. As a result, Mark and his customers gave glowing feedback. Moreover, Dalby Café now ranks in the top 10% of hospitality businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor. Consequently, the café looks ready to serve great food and warm welcomes for years to come.
