🏡 Project Spotlight: Cedarmore Housing Association

A Durable, Low-Maintenance Kitchen for Community Living

👥 About the Client – Cedarmore Housing Association

Cedarmore Housing Association Ltd (CHA) was established in 1968 by a small group of local Baptist churches, driven by a shared mission: to support elderly residents struggling to remain independent in their own homes. Today, CHA continues to provide safe, comfortable housing and community spaces tailored to the needs of its residents.

🧑‍🍳 The Challenge – A Satellite Kitchen in Need of Modernisation

The kitchen in question was a satellite catering space used for:

  • Afternoon teas

  • Light meal preparation

  • Occasional use when residents dined in a secondary communal room

While spotlessly clean, the kitchen was dated and domestic in style, and no longer met modern operational or hygiene expectations.

The client needed a practical and hygienic upgrade—but not a full-scale, heavy-duty commercial kitchen.

🔍 Our Solution – A Powder-Coated Steel Kitchen

We recommended a powder-coated steel kitchen—the ideal balance between domestic design and commercial durability.

This approach offers:

  • Greater strength and lifespan than MDF or chipboard

  • A clean, modern appearance

  • Resistance to moisture and wear—perfect for occasional but consistent use

⚠️ Unexpected Discovery – Moisture Damage

Upon strip-out, we uncovered historic water damage:
💧 Saturated flooring and walls due to a previous leak.

➡️ Works paused immediately while the area was treated with dehumidifiers to bring moisture levels down to a safe level for construction.

🛠️ Installation Details

Once conditions were safe to proceed, we carried out:

Hygienic UPVC wall cladding – seamless, easy to clean, and compliant with hygiene regulations
Slip-resistant safety vinyl flooring – for both durability and resident/staff safety
Rewiring and full plumbing replacement – ensuring modern safety and functionality
Assembly of powder-coated steel carcasses
Installation of bespoke stainless steel worktops and integrated sinks
Positioning of all appliances and final finishing touches

🎯 The Result – Smart, Practical & Built to Last

The refurbished kitchen now offers:

  • A clean, hygienic, and user-friendly workspace

  • Aesthetics that complement the building’s residential setting

  • The resilience needed to stand up to regular use in a communal housing environment

💬 “Not every care or housing kitchen needs full stainless steel—this was a smart, middle-ground solution that gives the client long-term value and peace of mind.”
