More about this project
The Coastguard is a 300-year-old historic seaside pub, the closest to France, used to be extremely popular due to its excellent seafront location but had declined over the years due to underinvestment. It has recently been purchased by Kent brewers Shepherd Neame and undergone a £200k refurbishment of the complete building.
We were contracted By Shepherd Neame to refurbish the existing commercial kitchen.
None of the existing equipment, including the extraction canopy, was in re-useable condition or was adequate to cater for the expected volumes of trade.
A new extraction ventilation system was installed by us along with cooking equipment, refrigeration and preparation equipment.
One major change to the building was the addition of an external bar area and kitchen serving area which allowed the pub to serve fish and chips to customers choosing to sit outside on the large patio area or to eat whilst sitting on the beach,
To cope with the high demand for battered fish, we designed and built a large chip shop style hot holding cabinet.
The pub opened in April to great reviews and large numbers of customers.
