The Yarrow Hotel, built in 1894 by Sir Alfred Yarrow, combines Jacobethan heritage with modern facilities; therefore, it provides a unique hospitality experience. Moreover, it operates within EKC Group’s Broadstairs College, which allows it to support hospitality training alongside guest services. Consequently, the building required a kitchen that balanced historic charm with modern efficiency. Additionally, the refurbishment aimed to improve workflow, safety, and equipment for both training and practical operations. Furthermore, the upgraded kitchen needed to handle increased capacity and maintain reliable operations. As a result, the hotel now benefits from a kitchen that serves both education and hospitality purposes effectively.
🔄 Project Scope: Refurbishment & Re-Organisation
Kent Commercial Kitchens was hired to partially refurbish and reorganise the ten-year-old kitchen; therefore, we focused on key improvements to boost functionality. Firstly, we removed and relocated existing storerooms, which freed up space and enhanced workflow. Additionally, we upgraded and reconfigured the cook suite, adding a large glass screen to improve visibility, safety, and operational efficiency. Furthermore, we supplied and installed new Falcon catering appliances to support modern cooking demands, and at the same time, we ensured they were easy to use and energy-efficient. In addition, we added Williams refrigeration units and a second Rational 20-grid combi oven, which increased capacity, versatility, and cooking flexibility. Moreover, we integrated several other modern appliances to ensure the kitchen could meet both training and commercial service requirements. Consequently, the space became highly efficient, safe, and practical for all staff and learners.

We managed every aspect of the refurbishment; therefore, the project ran smoothly and stayed on schedule. First, we completed all electrical rewiring and upgrades, which improved safety, supported the new appliances, and reduced long-term maintenance issues. Additionally, we handled plumbing installations and adjustments, which provided reliable water supply, drainage, and efficient operation for all new equipment. Moreover, we carried out building modifications within the kitchen area to accommodate the new layout and optimise workflow. Furthermore, we installed a new air conditioning system for the ground and first-floor pastry kitchens, which enhanced comfort, air quality, and working conditions for staff and students.
