More about this project

The Rare Breeds Centre is run by The Canterbury Oast Trust, which is a charity based in Kent that supports adults with learning disabilities. Many service users and life-skills students work and live on-site at the Rare Breeds Centre, and your visit helps them to continue their work.

Having previously carried out work for this site and others within the group we were asked for advice on the Canteen and Commercial Kitchen Design For Rare Breeds Centre by refurbishing the commercial kitchen and a complete refresh of the restaurant area.

The restaurant had been ‘mothballed’ at the start of the Covid lockdown, and had become an unuseable space – the kitchen was still in use with diners being served at a door and being seated externally.
The restaurant space was also an important area for theteaching of life skills and as a resource for residents to work.

The restaurant area had previsously been heated by gas space heaters and an open fire with the obvious environmental and safety issues systems like that bring.

We were contracted to partially refurbish the restaurant kitchen with new stainless steel benches, energy efficient refrigeration and more suitable modern cooking equipment.

The restaurant area received new LVT flooring and a complete re-decoratating using colours senstive to the needs of the neurodiverse customer that often use the area.

A bespoke stainless steel serving counter and preparation area was added leading to amuch improved customer flow.

We finally added athe Samsung 360 system for efficient heating and cooling using hoigh level destratification to ensure warm and cooled are was circulated efficiently.

Whilst carrying out the canteen and commercial kitchen design: for rare breeds centre we also added a Samsung AC system to the adjacent office block to replace their old and inefficient space heaters.

Client's Testimonial

We have been very pleased to work with Kent Commercial Kitchens on the full refurbishment of our kitchen and restaurant at the Rare Breeds Centre.
Simon and the team were very knowledgeable and professional from start to finish.
There were a few changes throughout the project and these were dealt with very easily.
I look forward to working with the team again.
