๐ A Unique Culinary Experience in Folkestone
Le Coq is not just another restaurant; instead, it is a truly unique dining destination at Folkestone Harbour Arm. From the very start, visitors are welcomed with stunning views of both the White Cliffs of Dover and the bustling harbour. In addition, the food is at the heart of the experience. Specialising in slow-cooked rotisserie chicken, crispy golden chips, and a range of tasty sides, Le Coq quickly became a favourite for both locals and visitors.
Because the concept focuses on flexibility, customers can choose to dine in, take away, or enjoy a quick meal on the go. Furthermore, the restaurantโs unusual setting makes it stand out even more. Unlike most venues, Le Coqโs kitchen is cleverly built inside conjoined shipping containers. As a result, the design is not only eye-catching but also perfectly suited to the lively atmosphere of the harbour.
๐ ๏ธ Our Role in This Ambitious Project
From the outset, this project was ambitious, yet it was also very exciting. In fact, it was one of six major installations we completed during the summer of 2023. Right from the beginning, we worked closely with both the Folkestone Harbour Company and the Le Coq team. Step by step, we guided the project through design, planning, and installation.
Together, we created a fully fitted commercial kitchen that included the main cooking area, a dishwasher room, a preparation room, and also a wet bar with a hot food servery counter. Because the client was completely new to the food industry, we took extra care to explain each part of the process. As a result, the client gained confidence while the build progressed smoothly. Moreover, every stage was designed to ensure strict hygiene, seamless workflow, and reliable performance.
๐ง Key Features of the Le Coq Kitchen Design
To guarantee a safe and efficient kitchen, several key features were included. Each stage linked naturally to the next, which meant that the whole process stayed on track.
Hygienic Wall Cladding & Slip-Resistant Flooring
First of all, we installed hygienic wall cladding and slip-resistant vinyl flooring. Not only did this create a clean and modern finish, but it also ensured easy cleaning and full compliance with safety standards.
Plumbing & LPG Gas Works
Next, we carried out the plumbing and LPG gas works. Because safety and compliance were so important, every pipe and connection was installed with precision. Consequently, the kitchen systems were both reliable and future-proof.
Extract Canopy System
Then, we tackled ventilation. A wall-mounted extract canopy with a make-up air system was carefully fitted. Since the kitchen was inside shipping containers, this required specialist cutting and welding through the roof. Nevertheless, the solution worked perfectly, keeping the cooking environment safe and comfortable.
Bespoke Bar & Servery Design
Finally, we designed and installed a bespoke bar and hot food counter. Using timber frames, stainless steel finishes, and Arctic White Corian tops, we combined durability with a sleek modern look. As a result, the serving areas are both practical and visually striking.

In addition to the build itself, the choice of appliances was crucial. Therefore, we installed premium, high-performance equipment that would support the restaurant every day.

Each appliance was chosen for its reliability, which meant that the final kitchen was fully equipped for smooth service.
โ A Successful Collaboration
All in all, this project was a great example of teamwork. On the one hand, the unusual shipping container setup brought some challenges. On the other hand, by working together, we turned those challenges into creative solutions.
As a result, the finished kitchen was both functional and striking. Because of the bespoke design and the use of premium equipment, Le Coq can now operate smoothly while offering top-quality food. Moreover, the restaurant stands out as one of the most distinctive venues at Folkestone Harbour Arm.
