🏫 St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School: New Commercial Kitchen Installation

📚 Project Overview: Designing and Installing a New Kitchen

St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, originally built in 1960, is undergoing a major redevelopment, including the construction of a new 420-pupil primary school. The new building, set on a 4.45-acre campus, will feature modern facilities, external soft and hard play areas, and an expanded car park.

We were contracted at the start of 2020 as part of the school’s replacement building programme. Working closely with our main contractor partners, Kier Regional Building Eastern, we were tasked with installing a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen designed to meet the needs of the expanded school.

🛠️ Design & Installation Process

Our role began with ensuring the kitchen design was fully optimised for the available space. Using CAD and BIM modelling, we created a design that maximised the kitchen’s functionality and operational flow. Once Kier completed the initial building works, we took over the installation of the extraction canopy and services spine, allowing further building works to continue seamlessly.

🍽️ Installing the Kitchen Equipment

The next phase of the project involved installing the kitchen appliances. Over the course of three days, we installed a range of essential equipment, including:

• Rational stacked combi ovens (two units)

• Blue Seal range ovens (two units)

• Maidaid pass-through dishwasher

• Williams refrigeration units

• Bespoke stainless steel workbenches and sinks

These appliances formed the core of the kitchen’s operations, enabling the school to prepare and serve meals efficiently for students.

🍴 Creating a Hygienic & Functional Kitchen Space

We designed the new kitchen to be a bright and hygienic working space, ensuring a comfortable and efficient environment for kitchen staff. The addition of a roller servery under which Victor Manufacturing bain marie hot cupboards were installed allowed for easy access and display of the day’s meals, keeping the food at the correct temperature until service time.
