πŸ— Project Overview

Folkestone College, part of the EKC Group, trains students across Kent. Therefore, in 2021, they decided to build a new campus to support growth and hands-on learning. As a result, they asked Kent Commercial Kitchens to design and install two new kitchens. At the same time, we worked closely with the main contractor to ensure everything met high standards. Furthermore, we kept the project on budget and completed it on schedule.


🎯 Project Brief

The college needed two teaching kitchens, so students could learn practical skills efficiently. At the same time, they required clean and safe ventilation systems. In addition, they wanted energy-saving equipment to reduce operating costs. Moreover, floors and surfaces had to be strong, hygienic, and easy to clean. Finally, the student servery had to be practical, accessible, and easy to use for daily service.


πŸ›  Our Approach

First, we combined new appliances with carefully selected re-used items, so costs stayed low while kitchens remained fully functional. Then, we installed a custom extraction system, which improved airflow and met all safety rules. Meanwhile, we fitted hygienic finishes, including Bioclad UPVC walls for easy cleaning and Altro non-slip floors for safety. Furthermore, we created a simple, well-organised student servery, so students and staff could move efficiently while keeping hygiene high. Additionally, we coordinated every phase to avoid disruption to the wider campus construction.


πŸ”§ Key Brands & Equipment

To ensure consistent quality and reliability, we selected trusted brands throughout both kitchens. For example:

  • Rational: We installed Rational combi ovens, which provide precise cooking control, versatility, and consistent results. Consequently, students can practise high-level cooking skills effectively.

  • Blue Seal: We used Blue Seal cookers and ranges, which offer high-performance and durability. As a result, the kitchens handle heavy daily use without compromising quality.

  • Bioclad Hygienic Walls: We fitted Bioclad wall panels, which are seamless, wipe-clean, and highly hygienic. Therefore, cleaning is easy and surfaces remain safe for food preparation.

  • Hoshizaki Refrigeration: We installed Hoshizaki fridges and freezers, which provide energy-efficient, reliable cold storage. As a result, food stays fresh and operational costs are reduced.

  • Aqua Mundus: We added Aqua Mundus water filtration systems, ensuring clean and safe water for cooking and washing. Consequently, the kitchens meet hygiene standards efficiently.

  • Parry: We fitted Parry dishwashers, which offer high-volume, reliable cleaning. Therefore, hygiene standards are maintained even during peak periods.

By selecting these brands, we ensured that the kitchens are safe, efficient, and built to last for years.

Despite a tight 16-week schedule, both kitchens were completed on time, and we stayed on budget. Moreover, the kitchens integrate perfectly with the building’s design and sustainability goals. As a result, students now have two modern, hygienic, and safe kitchens that are fully ready for teaching and practical learning. Furthermore, the kitchens allow staff to maintain a clean and efficient workspace every day.
