The brief
Café kitchen refurbishment Kent: long narrow kitchen that needed to work harder
Bakery 64 is a well-established bakery and café on New Romney High Street — fresh bread, homemade cakes and an all-day breakfast and lunch offer that keeps the kitchen running flat out. The existing kitchen was long and narrow, surfaces were ageing, and the layout was slowing service down. The brief was a practical refurbishment that avoided unnecessary building works, upgraded surfaces and electrics, and improved the flow without the cost of a full rebuild.
The bakery stayed open throughout — temporary sinks and handwashing facilities set up at the front of house, kitchen sealed off for hygiene, works phased to keep disruption to a minimum. Full strip-out to handover in 3 weeks.
What we did
Strip-out to operational in 3 weeks, trading throughout
Strip-out and electrical rewire
Full strip-out of the existing kitchen. All wall surfaces repaired and made good before cladding installation. Complete electrical rewire to bring the kitchen up to current UK standards — a necessary step for a busy food preparation environment running multiple appliances simultaneously.
Hygienic wall cladding and safety flooring
Bioclad UPVC hygienic wall cladding installed throughout — wipe-clean, durable and appropriate for a bakery and café kitchen under EHO inspection. Altro Stronghold slip-resistant safety flooring laid across the full floor area, improving both safety and cleanability for a kitchen running from early morning through afternoon service.
Equipment and fabrication
Existing appliances in serviceable condition removed, cleaned and reinstalled in the improved layout. New Parry cooking equipment, Maidaid dishwasher and Steelplan steel furniture supplied and fitted. Bespoke stainless steel benches and sinks fabricated to suit the updated kitchen footprint — maximising usable worktop and storage in a long narrow space.
