The brief
Bottega Montalbano Tenterden: deli and gelateria behind the restaurant
This project continued our relationship with the owners of Montalbano, a popular Italian restaurant on Tenterden High Street. They wanted to expand by creating a sophisticated deli and gelateria in a building behind the restaurant.
The space was a once-functional area used for offices, storage and light prep. The brief was to transform it into an authentic, customer-facing Italian experience serving cakes, antipasti and freshly made gelato, with a small but efficient kitchen behind it and inviting indoor and outdoor seating.
What we did
A complete turnkey fit-out
Strip-out and reconfiguration
A Bottega Montalbano Tenterden for Tenterden.
We removed ceilings, fixtures and select walls to open the space up, creating a natural flow for customer service and seating where there had been back-of-house utility rooms.
Front-of-house design
The deli was finished with bespoke pastel bench seating, high-spec Jordao servery counters to showcase cakes, antipasti and gelato, premium floor tiling, and a full joinery, lighting and electrical package.
Kitchen and outdoor area
The back-of-house kitchen was laid out for efficient workflow and fitted with professional appliances, plumbing and electrics to hygiene and safety standards. Outside, we laid resin-bound flooring and fitted a retractable awning to extend the seating and lift the curb appeal.

The completed deli and gelateria is a busy destination in its own right, complementing the Montalbano restaurant nearby. With its soft colour palette, elegant furnishings and the aroma of fresh coffee and gelato, it captures the spirit of Italy in a modern setting and gave the client a beautiful new space to grow into.
