The brief
Seaside cafe kitchen refurbishment: Reopening a Kent landmark
Additionally, Deal Pier Kitchen sits at the seaward end of Deal's 1950s pier — one of the most recognisable venues on the Kent coast. Furthermore, After the venue had been closed for over a year, new owners Tim and Rebecca took it on with a plan to reopen it as a modern café and restaurant. Moreover, We had previously worked on the site, which meant we could move quickly and plan around the known constraints of the building.
Also, The brief was a full kitchen refurbishment to bring the space up to a professional standard: extraction, compliant finishes throughout, a full equipment fit-out, bar design and build, and all M&E works. In particular, The pier location added a logistical challenge — every piece of equipment had to be carried 350 metres along the pier on foot. Notably, All works delivered in 4 weeks.
What we did
Full refurbishment, 350 metres from the road
Extraction and fire suppression
Therefore, A cafe kitchen refurbishment Kent for Deal.
Specifically, new extraction canopy installed over the cookline, with ductwork routed through the pier structure. In particular, ceasefire wet-chemical fire suppression system fitted alongside — a requirement for a kitchen at this scale operating in an enclosed pier building. Also, ePAS grease management system installed on the extraction run.
Hygienic finishes and ceiling
Additionally, bioclad UPVC hygienic wall cladding throughout the kitchen. In particular, altro slip-resistant safety flooring laid and coved at all wall junctions. Also, wipeable suspended ceiling with lighting — bright, clean and straightforward to maintain for a venue running breakfast through evening service.
Bar design and build
Furthermore, new bar carcasses designed and fabricated at our Folkestone workshop, transported to Deal and installed on site. In particular, completed with a bespoke worktop finish to complement the venue's coastal aesthetic.
Equipment supply and install
Moreover, full catering line supplied and installed: Rational SCC combi oven, Blue Seal gas range and salamander, Foster undercounter refrigeration, Maidaid pass-through dishwasher. In particular, every appliance commissioned and signed off before handover. Also, all electrical, gas and plumbing works carried out by our in-house team.
350-metre pier logistics
Also, no vehicle access beyond the pier entrance. In particular, every item of equipment, every length of ductwork, every sheet of cladding was carried 350 metres along the pier by our team. Also, the programme was planned around the carry distance from the outset — sequencing deliveries to keep the pier clear and the build moving. Therefore, delivered on time regardless.
