The brief

Care Home Kitchen Refurbishment: Modernising a live care home kitchen

Fairby Grange is a family-run residential home near Dartford, in the village of Longfield, caring for residents since 1978. Its kitchen was spotless but dated, and needed modernising to improve energy efficiency, meet current hygiene standards, and give staff a safer space to prepare residents' daily meals.

The challenge was the setting. This was a working kitchen in a live care home, feeding residents every day, so the refurbishment had to happen without interrupting meals or disrupting routines.

What we did

Gas to induction, worked around mealtimes

Gas to electric induction

We replaced the existing gas range with a Falcon electric induction range. Safer to operate around care staff, easier to clean, and lower to run, the switch suits a care setting where simplicity and safety matter as much as cooking power.

Hygienic finishes

Wipe-clean UPVC hygienic wall cladding compliant with care-sector regulations, and Polyflor slip-resistant vinyl flooring overlaid on the original tiles for safety underfoot and a refreshed finish. Decorating and painting completed the space.

Working around residents

The full two-week programme was coordinated around mealtimes, with clear communication with staff throughout. The result was zero service downtime and no disruption to residents' routines, delivered with safety-first procedures suited to a live care environment.

"I just wanted to say how lovely your gang is. They worked extremely hard, even when there were quite a few in the kitchen and it was fairly warm, they got on with it without any problems. I like to give credit where it's due, and your chaps deserve it."
