The brief
Presentation kitchen design London: empty unit that had to work as a kitchen and a stage
Lee Kum Kee needed a London space that could run as a working commercial kitchen and double as a presentation venue for chef demonstrations, product showcases, cookery classes and filming.
The Docklands unit started as a blank shell. The design had to handle two competing demands at once: the hygiene, safety and workflow standards of a full commercial kitchen, and the sightlines, finish quality and camera-readiness of a space built to be filmed and watched. We worked alongside the client and their contractors from the first survey so the layout served both jobs without compromising either.
What we did
Designed for workflow and built for the camera
A central demonstration island
The room is built around a bespoke induction island with clear sightlines on every side, so a chef can demonstrate to a live audience or a camera with nothing blocking the view. Stainless fabrication was welded and finished on site to fit the space exactly.
Full extraction and a proper cooking line
A purpose-built extraction canopy and ductwork run over the cooking line, with a Rational combi oven, induction wok station and fryer specified for reliability through back-to-back sessions. Designed and installed as one coordinated package.
Hygienic finishes and flexible prep
uPVC hygienic wall cladding and slip-resistant vinyl throughout, with stainless prep areas and well-placed refrigeration that let the room reconfigure quickly between events. Compliant, wipe-clean, and a clean backdrop that films well.
Design, extraction and ventilation, hygienic finishes, fabrication and appliance supply and install were all delivered by our own team, coordinated alongside the other trades on site to hold a two-week programme.
