The brief
Cafe Design and Build: small café for a very busy park
Additionally, Mote Park is a 440-acre green space in Maidstone, one of the South East's most popular public destinations, with a boating lake, miniature railway and the historic Mote House. Furthermore, KCK worked with long-time client Robert at Riverside Caterers, alongside Ashford Borough Council, to deliver a commercial kitchen and customer-facing servery in a new-build café in this prime park setting.
Moreover, The footprint was small, with limited storage and prep space and unusual corners that ruled out standard furniture. Also, Visitor numbers are high, so surfaces and equipment had to be durable and easy to clean. In particular, The job was to design, supply and install a fully functional kitchen and servery in a tight, awkward space.
What we did
Smart design for a compact space
Extraction and ventilation
Specifically, we installed a commercial extraction system and added a roof windcatcher so airflow stayed effective in the compact, enclosed space, keeping the kitchen comfortable and safe for staff through busy service.
Bespoke fabrication and finishes
Additionally, custom stainless steel benches and workstations were fabricated to use the awkward corners efficiently, with UPVC hygienic wall cladding and slip-resistant vinyl flooring for fast cleaning and safe movement at peak times.
Servery and equipment
Furthermore, the customer-serving area was built as a stainless steel servery topped with Corian, warmed with timber cladding and a white metro tile backsplash and pelmet. In particular, behind it we installed Blue Seal cooking, refrigeration and a dishwashing area for full high-volume service.

The outcome
A small space performing like a big one
Notably, Despite the space limitations and unusual architecture, the finished café kitchen and servery is fully operational and supports a high volume of visitors. Therefore, Robert and his team were delighted with the result, and the café is already popular, a good example of how smart design can make a small space perform like a much larger one.
