The brief
A new kitchen inside a school extension
We worked with our long-standing contractor client Redec, who managed a new extension at Park Way Primary School in Maidstone. The extension added new offices and a modern commercial kitchen, and we were asked to design and build the kitchen from the ground up.
As a new-build within a wider construction programme, the work had to be coordinated closely with the main contractor and the other trades, so the kitchen integrated cleanly into the building and the whole job stayed on schedule.
What we did
Designed, built and commissioned around the contractor
Design and extraction
A full set of layout and services drawings to guide the install, with regular site meetings to coordinate the trades. We fitted a new island extraction canopy with ductwork to a flat roof, sized so the extract and fresh-air plant run efficiently in a busy school kitchen.
Finishes and servery
Bioclad UPVC hygienic wall cladding and slip-resistant vinyl flooring, sequenced so the contractor's M&E team could carry on without delays. Servery counters with robust tray slides built for volume, and fire-rated roller shutters to secure the servery out of hours.
Equipment and handover
Supply and install of the full catering line, tested and commissioned over three days, followed by staff training so the team was confident with the equipment and procedures from day one. Rational combi ovens, Williams refrigeration, a Blue Seal cookline and a Moffat servery.
Delivered in four weeks, on schedule and coordinated around the wider extension works.
